Canvas

Canvas is the learning management system (LMS) used at UNCG. Canvas simplifies teaching and learning by connecting the most frequently used digital tools in one place. Canvas provides a great place to create, organize, and implement course content, assignments, quizzes, discussions, files, and more.

FAQ

Schools and colleges have Canvas templates available for use. Please contact your Academic Technology Specialist for information on how to import and use your template.

Each course has a limit of 1 gigabyte (GB) or 1000 megabytes (MB) of file storage and the size of any one file cannot exceed 2 gigabytes (GB).

To overcome this limitation, these files can be stored in one of UNCG’s cloud storage options. Depending on the type of media or file being shared, it is recommended to use OneDrive, YouTube, or Canvas Studio.

For more information visit Canvas: File Storage Limitations & Cloud Storage Solutions.

Canvas supports LTI (Learning Tools Interoperability®), a standard that makes it possible to integrate third-party tools with your Canvas course, or enhance the course with other Web applications and Internet resources.

Requests for new integrations (LTIs) should be made at least 4 months in advance of expected initial use. New integrations can be requested by submitting a ticket to 6-TECH.

For more information visit: Third-Party integrations with Canvas.

Canvas does not have a designated activity for students to submit journal entries, but existing features can be leveraged to accomplish this.

For more information visit: Journal Assignments.

There are two tools you can use to review your course for web accessibility: Canvas’ built-in Accessibility Checker and UDOIT.

  1. Canvas Accessibility Checker. The Rich Content Editor includes an Accessibility Checker tool that detects common accessibility errors within the editor. This tool only verifies content created within the Rich Content Editor. You may use other accessibility tools to verify additional content in Canvas. For more information visit: How do I use the Accessibility Checker in the Rich Content Editor?
  2. Universal Design Online content Inspection Tool, or UDOIT (pronounced “You Do It”). UDOIT helps faculty identify accessibility issues in Canvas course content. With the click of a button, UDOIT scans a course, generates a report, and provides resources on how to address common accessibility issues. For more information visit: Using Universal Design Online Content Inspection Tool (UDOIT) in Canvas.
