Parchment Digital Badges

Parchment Digital Badges (formerly known as Canvas Credentials) is a digital badging and credentialing platform that integrates with Canvas. Digital badges and certificates can be awarded to learners based on their achievements, skills, and other specified requirements. Please note: Use of badges must follow university guidelines and cannot reflect academic credit.

Key features of Parchment Digital Badges include:

  • Automated Badge Awarding: Badges can be automatically awarded based on predefined criteria, such as completing a module or achieving a specific grade.
  • Skill Tracking: Helps track student progress and skills development over time.
  • Shareable Achievements: Students can share their earned credentials on platforms like LinkedIn or embed them in resumes.
  • Customizable Badges: Badges can be created to reflect specific learning outcomes or milestones.
  • Learning Pathways: Badge pathways can be set up to guide learners through sequences of skills or courses toward advanced credentials.

FAQ

Canvas Credentials is being rebranded as Parchment Digital Badges, now part of the Parchment Award suite, one of Instructure brands. This is a change in branding only — there are no changes to how the product functions, how it’s accessed, or its current licensing agreements. The only noticeable change to familiarize will be the URL to your Canvas Credentials instance, which will invoke Parchment, as stated below.

For more information visit: FAQ – Rebranding Canvas Credentials to Parchment Digital Badges

Badges can be used according to the following guidelines and cannot be awarded to reflect academic credit.

Non-Credit Courses

  • Fee-Based or Grant-Funded Courses: Badges for these courses are awarded on a cost recovery basis.
  • Public Free Courses: Publicly accessible courses without fees can also use badges on a cost recovery basis.

Parchment Digital Badges Pathways provide the ability to map out a curriculum of multiple badges in a format that is easy-to-follow for learners. Pathways can be very simple, with only a few badged items to very complex with multiple branches, optional requirements and badges from different organizations and/or issuers.

Badges can be accessed at uncg.badgr.io or uncg.badges.parchment.com. From the Digital Badges website you can:

  • view your Backpack;
  • view and print certificates; and
  • share your credentials on various platforms, including LinkedIn.
